This is the public presentation of our itinerant symposium, “Medicine, Beauty and the Body”, in which we discuss historical cultures of beauty alongside materials, texts and artifacts. We aim to explore historical continuities and changes in the knowledge and materials by bringing together experts working on the field from antiquity to the early modern period.

The symposium took place from September 24 to 28 in Innsbruck, Salzburg, and Vienna. It is a cooperation between the Museumsverband Kunsthistorisches Museum Wien / Schloss Ambras and the program “Figurations of Transition” of the inter-university cooperative “Science and Art” at the University of Salzburg and the Mozarteum University.

Speakers: Christina Antenhofer (University of Salzburg), Montserrat Cabré (University of Cantabria), Irene Calà (University of Munich), Erin Griffey (University of Auckland), Timothy McCall (Villanova University), Romana Sammern (Inter-University Organization Science and Arts, University of Salzburg / Mozarteum University Salzburg), Katharina Seidl (Museumsverband KHM, Schloß Ambras)
